NIGERIAN filmmaker, Funke Akindele, has announced the premiere of the highly anticipated second season of ‘Aiyetoro Town’, scheduled for June 22, five years after the debut of its first season.
Akindele made the announcement via her social media platforms, revealing that the new season will feature a blend of comedy, drama, and insightful life lessons.
The series will premiere on FAANtv’s YouTube channel on Sunday, June 22.
She emphasized that the second season will uphold the legacy of the first, which was released five years ago.
The acclaimed actress and producer also expressed her gratitude to the cast and crew for their dedication and talent, describing them as the driving force behind the project.
In her statement, she wrote:
“Five years ago, we brought you Aiyetoro Town Season 1, and now we are back with Season 2. Prepare for laughter, drama, and meaningful life lessons. Aiyetoro Town Season 2 premieres on FAANtv’s YouTube channel on Sunday, June 22. A heartfelt thank you to my incredible cast and crew—your dedication and talent brought this story to life. You are the true MVPs.”
Akindele, widely known for her iconic role as Jenifa, is a multi-talented filmmaker, actress, director, producer, politician, and realtor.
She gained widespread recognition after winning the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role for her performance in Jenifa.
She reprised the role in the 2011 sequel ‘The Return of Jenifa’ and the 2015 television series ‘Jenifa’s Diary’, earning her the Best Actress in a Comedy award at the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) in 2016 and 2017. She secured the same accolade in 2020 and 2022, marking her fifth win in the category.
Akindele holds the record as the most nominated and awarded actress/filmmaker at the AMVCA, with six wins to her name.
Her blockbuster film, ‘Everybody Loves Jenifa’, achieved historic box office success, grossing over one billion naira within 19 days.
The movie accounted for 40% of Nigeria’s December 2023 box office revenue and became the highest-grossing film in West Africa, earning ₦1.6 billion.
This milestone cemented her position as Nigeria’s highest-grossing producer and director, a record that remains unchallenged. (NAN)
