CHRISTIAN Association of Clergies in Nigeria (C.A.C) has called on the federal government to listen and pay close attention to the cry of Nigerians over the skyrocketed price of fuel and ensure that the welfare of the people is given priority.
C.A.C made the appeal in a communique issued at the third quarter synod of All Nations Evangelism Ministry Incorporated, held during the ministerial development seminar at Faith Cathedral, Makurdi on Saturday.
Chairman of Synod and President Christian Association of Clergies in Nigeria, Archbishop Dr Yimam Orkwar, who read the communique on behalf of the synod noted with lamentation that, “the recent increase in price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) announced by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited has generated public outcry and anger across the nation. The increase has affected transport costs, increased inflation and created hardship in the nation Social unrest, loss of lives, and destruction of property during the recent protests are some of the negative consequences we have all suffered”.
While the synod commended recent efforts by the Governor Hyacinth Alia led Benue State government to tackle insecurity in the Sankera area of the State and urged the government to sustain the effort, it tasked the government to expose and deal decisively with prominent persons, traditional rulers, elites and community leaders who allegedly sponsor insecurity in the area and support criminal elements.
The synod among other things also asked the state government to expedite the relocation of people displaced by insecurity back to their ancestral homes.
“Synod observes with regret, the plight of thousands of Benue citizens whose stay in Internally Displaced Persons Camps across the State has been unnecessarily prolonged as a result of insecurity in their communities which has adversely affected children’s health needs, education and upbringing in the camps. As government tackles insecurity, a deliberate effort to restore people to their safe homes should be pursued.
“Synod calls on senior Ministers in the nation to be wary of the enemy’s strategy of fueling disunity in the Body of Christ as witnessed by the social media war between highly respected senior ministers and encourages the ministers to uphold the unity of the Body of Christ and the image of the Church.
“Synod calls on Christian faithful to pray for the peaceful conduct of the October 5th Council elections in Benue State and reiterates that successful Council elections and the election of credible candidates into the various positions would improve leadership at the grassroot level”, part of the communique read.
