THE CORPS Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed, has expressed profound grief over a fatal road traffic crash that claimed six journalists’ lives en route from Yola to Gombe.

In a statement on Wednesday by the Corps Public Relations Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, Mohammed said the journalists, members of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ), were travelling in a bus when the tragic incident occurred.

Describing the accident as a “devastating blow” to the media family and the nation, the FRSC Corps Marshal noted that the loss of journalists, regarded as voices of truth and conscience, was deeply painful and unacceptable.

Mohammed extended heartfelt condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of the deceased, while praying for the peaceful repose of their souls and speedy recovery of those injured in the crash.

He reaffirmed FRSC’s solidarity with the NUJ, assuring that the Corps was closely monitoring developments in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to support emergency response and follow-up actions.

The Corps Marshal called for strict adherence to road safety regulations, particularly vehicle roadworthiness, tyre integrity, and responsible speed management to prevent similar tragedies.

Warning that preventable factors continued to cause avoidable road accidents, he urged motorists to cooperate with FRSC in reducing road carnage across Nigeria. He stressed that the Corps’ approach combined enforcement, public education, and collaboration with stakeholders to enhance road safety nationwide and save lives on Nigerian highways. (NAN)
