FORMER military governor of Benue State, Brigadier-General Dominic Obukadata Oneya is dead. Oneya’s death was announced on Wednesday by Abubakar Aminu Ibrahim, SSA to Governor Ganduje on Social Media.
Nigerian Tribune, quoting an unnamed family source stated that Oneya died in his home town, Agbarho, Delta State. The paper also quoted the source to have stated that Oneya died from a brief illness as he was in Abuja about a week ago.
Oneya, who was also governor of Kano State from 1996 to August 1998 during the military regime of General Sani Abacha, as well as Chairman of the defunct Nigeria Footbal Association (NFA), served Benue State as Military Administrator from August 1998 to May 1999 when he handed over power to the then elected Governor George Akume on 29th May.
The late army general who was born on May 26, 1948, at Ehwerhe Quarter, Agbarho, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta died at the age of 73.
