A FIRE outbreak has gutted the Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron 13 office and armoury in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, January 4, 2026, resulting in extensive damage to critical facilities within the formation.
A Video clip circulating on social media shows the Mopol 13 premises engulfed in flames, with the office blocks and armoury visibly affected.
In the footage, a voice narrating the scene claimed that the armoury and the Squadron Commander’s office were among the structures destroyed by the inferno.
As at the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire had not been officially determined. There was no immediate confirmation on whether the incident was caused by an electrical fault or any other factor.
Attempts to obtain official clarification were unsuccessful. The Benue State Police Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Udeme Edet, had not issued a statement on the incident and was yet to respond to enquiries from our correspondent as of press time.
Security sources disclosed that investigations were expected to commence to establish the cause of the fire and evaluate the extent of damage recorded.
Authorities are also expected to determine whether the incident was accidental or connected to any form of criminal activity.
Further details are anticipated as investigations continue.
