THE FEDERAL Government has called on organised labour to strengthen unity, collective progress, welfare of members rather than the pursuit of individual dominance.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, said this during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the National Association of Scrap and Waste Dealers Employers of Nigeria (NASWDEN) on Tuesday in Abuja.
Dingyadi said that prioritising personal ambition above organisational interest weakens unions and neglects the wellbeing of members.
According to him, it is important for organised labour to remain united and channel energy toward collective progress, contribute meaningfully to national stability and economic growth
“Unity breeds peace and progress. When leaders put the union first, they do not only strengthen their organisation but also support the country’s development. An organisation is always greater than any individual. Leadership is about service, not personal gain,’” he said.
Dingyadi, however, commended NASWDEN leaders for choosing peace and cohesion over division, adding that their commitment to harmony should serve as an example to other unions.
He, therefore, assured the Association of the ministry’ support to achieve the purpose.
Earlier, Mr Uko Iwaudofia, NASWDEN National President, said that the unity of the association was achieved through the collective determination of members, strengthened by the Minister’s timely intervention.
He said the association is committed to amplifying members’ voices and protecting their welfare.
In his remarks, a founding member of NASWDEN, Mr Akilu Muhammad, expressed gratitude to the minister for his decisive role in resolving the crisis that had previously divided the union.
He described the minister’s intervention as instrumental in restoring peace and charting a new course for NASWDEN’s growth. (NAN)
