THE FEDERAL Executive Council (FEC) has approved the Group Life Assurance Scheme for federal workers, paramilitary, and uniformed personnel, ensuring financial protection for their families in the event of death.

Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack, Head of Service of the Federation, disclosed this on Monday while briefing State House Correspondents after the sixth FEC meeting of the year. She stated that the scheme guarantees a life insurance policy for each public servant, with benefits paid to the next of kin to mitigate the impact of the loss.

“The scheme reflects the priority President Bola Tinubu’s administration places on the welfare of federal workers,” Walson-Jack said.

This year’s coverage includes key government officials such as the President, Vice President, Chief of Staff, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, ministers, the Head of Civil Service, permanent secretaries, and staff of federal ministries and treasury-funded agencies.

The scheme also extends to paramilitary agencies, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the Office of the National Security Adviser.

Walson-Jack clarified that the Group Life Insurance is an annual policy, with the latest FEC approval covering the 2025/2026 policy year. The coverage begins upon payment of the premium to underwriters, in line with the “no premium, no cover” policy.

“Today’s approval was for the appointment of 17 insurance underwriters for the 2025/2026 group life insurance cover. The premium covers a 12-month period, meaning the policy will expire in 2026,” she explained. (NAN)
