THE Amilcar Cabral Ideological School Movement (ACIS-M) has commended Nigerians, particularly the youth, for their resilience in standing by their demand for the disbandment of the notorious police unit, SARS despite the socio-economic challenges in the country. ACIS-M made the commendation while rising from an emergency meeting of its leadership held on Sunday, October 11, 2020 in Lagos.

        Below is the full statement:

        October 12, 2020

THE PEOPLE UNITED CAN NEVER BE DEFEATED!

ACIS-M SALUTES NIGERIAN YOUTH FOR THE #EndSARS VICTORY!

        DEMANDS THAT RESISTANCE SHOULD CONTINUE!!

The leadership of the Amilcar Cabral Ideological School Movement (ACIS-M) at its emergency Central Coordinating Council meeting held yesterday October 11, commended the resilience of the Nigerian people who despite all the economic hardship and attacks inflicted on them by the Capitalist ruling cabal and its military-police agencies of destabilization, rose in mass protests across the country in the past one week, to courageously RESIST and demand the scrapping of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (#EndSARS) that have been notorious for extortion, rape and torture of hapless victims, brutality, premeditated framed up of innocent Nigerians and extra-judicial murder.

We uphold that the resistance by the mass of Nigerian Youth has further attested to our position that it is only through political actions that the corrupt and profiteers’ APC/BUHARI-led regime can be checked and defeated.

ACIS-M’s position that “if we struggle we may win, if we don’t we have lost”, has once again exemplified itself in the pronouncement made yesterday by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) with the disbandment of the criminal squad, so-called SARS. Hence, Nigerians should consider the disbandment as a Victory to struggle, in which  the mass outcries and actions of Nigerians, home and abroad, have compelled the ruling class to dissolve one of its tactical instruments of oppression and subjugation of the downtrodden majority in Nigeria.

Against the background of this resistance-to-victory #EndSARS, we, at the ACIS-M, call for further resistance to put an End not only to Police Brutality and all forms of impunity in Government but against all socio-economic injustices and imperialist dictates!

However, while we salute specifically the Nigerian youth for the victory, we want to call on all those who participated in the protests and other mass of suffering Nigerians and the working people in the trade unions and informal sectors to get more involved in sustained resistance in order to REVERSE all anti-people and anti-workers policies that are responsible for poverty, unemployment, high cost of living, insecurity of lives and property and the decadent state of Nigeria’s political and socio-economic underdevelopment.

Suffice to state emphatically that police brutality is one of the numerous implications of a failed system which we all need to rise up against, even though, many have argued in favour of Police reformation, but as far as ACIS-M is concerned, of what effect will it be, if we reform the police, yet keep breeding criminals through continuous failure of government’s capitalist policies to provide education for all, healthcare for all and jobs for the neglected millions of idle youths? The common saying that ‘an idle mind is the devil’s workshop’ is currently at play in the Nigerian reality, which is aptly manifested in the alarming rate of youth unemployment in millions and which equally is undermining seriously the potentials and creativity of the Nigerian youth for productive development.

Thus, ACIS-M calls on the mass of Nigerians to use the inspiration from the victory in #EndSARS  to further protest and demand immediate reversal of obnoxious hikes in Petrol Pump Price, Value Added Tax, Stamp Duty, Electricity Tariff, Prices of Essential Commodities and to continue the mass resistance against US-Imperialist controlled institutions of IMF, World Bank, African Development Bank, at all and all anti-working people policies of privatization, deregulation, casualisation, commercialization, foreign debt enslavement, etc.

As the saying goes, “eternal vigilance is the price of liberty”, the Nigerian youth is henceforth encouraged to be aware, alert and alive to its responsibility to join forces with the working people, poor masses, women, artisans, farmers, traders, etc, to resist and defeat all wicked antics and policies from the ruinous and looting ruling class.

Fundamentally, ACIS-M urges the Nigerian youth to seek critical consciousness in order to be convinced that a socialist transformation of Nigeria remains the ultimate task to reversing all forms of socio-economic injustices, imperialist and foreign policies’ dependence, political and sovereignty’s subservience to US and creditor nations’ dictates, police brutality, fundamental rights violations, infrastructural decadence, amongst others. AND THE NIGERIAN YOUTH SHOULD BE PREPARED TO STRUGGLE FOR A JUST SYSTEM IN ALLIANCE WITH THE WORKING CLASS AND THE OPPRESSED POOR MASSES!

Issued by ACIS-M Central Coordinating Council (CCC)

        Signed:

        COMRADE ABIODUN AREMU (Co-Coordinator)

        COMRADE SEGUN CHE (Utility Commissar)
