Eid-el-Maulud: CAN Urges Nigerians To Translate Prophet’s Virtues Into Action

THE CHRISTIAN Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged Nigerians to translate the values of mercy, justice and compassion exemplified by Prophet Muhammad into concrete actions that address insecurity, economic hardship and national unity.

This is contained in a statement signed by CAN President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh on Tuesday in Abuja, to mark Eid-el-Maulud.

Okoh felicitated with Muslim faithful across the country and prayed for peace and blessings upon their families and communities.

He said Eid-el-Maulud, which commemorates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad, provided an opportunity to reflect on mercy, justice, compassion for the poor and vulnerable, honesty and peaceful coexistence.

“These values are especially important today because they challenge us to care for one another, protect human dignity and pursue peace even when our differences are exploited for political or personal gain,” he said.

Okoh noted that the celebration came at a difficult time for many Nigerians, citing the pressure of rising living costs and insecurity affecting homes and communities across the country.

“People are tired of promises; they want to see their lives improve,” he added.

He, therefore, urged the Federal Government and leaders at all levels to move from promises to visible action, saying Nigerians need greater security, economic relief and leadership that puts their welfare first.

“Leadership is not measured by what we promise, but by what Nigerians can see and feel,” the CAN president stated.

As the country approaches the 2027 general elections, Okoh appealed to politicians not to exploit religion or ethnicity for political advantage.

“Elections will come and go, but the bonds that hold Nigeria together must remain,” he said.

The CAN leader further called on Christians and Muslims to refuse to be divided by those seeking political gain from their differences.

He stressed that both faiths share a responsibility to protect communities, care for the vulnerable and work together for peace.

“I remain hopeful about Nigeria, but our hope must be backed by action, responsible leadership, good citizenship and justice,” he said.

Okoh, therefore, pray that Eid-el-Maulud would renew Nigerians’ commitment to mercy, peace and compassion, and inspire the building of a Nigeria where every citizen could live with dignity and hope.

He wished Muslim brothers and sisters a happy Eid-el-Maulud celebration. (NAN)
