THE ENFORCERS of Good Governance (EGG), a prominent socio-political advocacy group based in Rivers State, has called on President Bola Tinubu to lift the state of emergency imposed on the state.
The appeal was conveyed in a statement issued by the group’s National Convener, Dr. Kingsley Ogu, on Monday in Abuja. Ogu stated that lifting the state of emergency would serve as both a symbolic and practical gesture in commemoration of June 12 Democracy Day.
The appeal followed resolutions reached during the group’s expanded stakeholders’ meeting held on Monday.
“The Enforcers of Good Governance, under the leadership of our National Convener, Dr. Kingsley Ogu, convened an expanded stakeholders’ meeting on June 9, 2025, in Rivers State,” the statement read.
“This meeting was held in alignment with our National Leader’s declaration in Abuja, reaffirming our commitment to the renewed political momentum and strategic roadmap toward the 2027 general elections.”
The group reiterated its full support for President Tinubu, praising his leadership, national policies, and dedication to democratic principles under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
“We commend Mr. President for his timely and statesmanlike intervention in the Rivers State political crisis, which has helped restore stability and set the stage for lasting peace,” Ogu said.
Given the progress toward reconciliation, the group urged the President to consider lifting the state of emergency, describing it as a fitting tribute to Nigeria’s Democracy Day.
The meeting included the participation of 23 Local Government Area (LGA) Coordinators, 23 women leaders, 23 social media influencers, and representatives from the group’s structures across seven institutions in Rivers State.
Ogu stated that all members of the group had resolved to support President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, demonstrating their readiness to mobilize grassroots backing for his administration.
In line with this commitment, EGG announced plans to launch a nationwide door-to-door sensitization campaign to rally support for the President’s re-election. The campaign aims to highlight the achievements of the current administration and encourage civic engagement ahead of the 2027 elections.
“Our objective is to promote good governance and national unity by engaging directly with citizens at the grassroots level,” Ogu said.
He also called on well-meaning Nigerians, civil society organizations, and political stakeholders to join the group in its efforts to strengthen democracy and foster national development. (NAN)
