THE FINAL burial programme of African Independent Television’s (AIT’s) ace Labour Reporter, Ms Rosemary Mohogbone Wilkey, has been release, indicating that the veteran journalist will be interred on March 1, 2024.

The rites of passage will commence on Tuesday, February 27 with Service of Songs to be held at New Estate Baptist Church, 57, Adisa Bashua Street, off Adelabu Road, Surulere – Lagos by 4pm.

There will be a Valedictory Service on Thursday, February 29, 2024 by 7am also at New Estate Baptist Church, after which the body will head for her home town, Koko in Delta State for an All Night Wakekeep.

A final Church Service will hold at Koko on Friday, March 1, 2024 before final burial.

The late veteran journalist, who covered the activities of organised labour for decades, died on Thursday, January 25, after a reported brief illness.

Rosemary’s signature posture while anchoring ‘Labour on Track’

Comrade Rosemary, as she was often addressed by labour activists and her colleagues who covered organised labour, anchored a weekly labour programme, ‘Policy On Trac’, which usually provided news roundup of major highlights of labour and industrial relations activities in Nigeria every Tuesday, and for that reason, usually attracts the attention of trade unions and government functionaries alike.

In addition to commitment to positive reportage of trade union activities, Rosemary was a major facilitator for the live coverage of May Day activities by the AIT.

She was not only ardent and adept in understanding the political dynamics involved in the coverage of organised labour through the two national centres in Nigeria, she was equally conversant with the internal political rhythms of affiliate unions of the centres.

The trade unions, more than their leaders who come and go, will therefore certainly miss the critical interventions in Comrade Rosemary’s coverage.

Unfortunately, Comrade Rosemary’s passage attracted less than the desired animated reaction expected from the constituency to which she committed her life.

An edition of Rosemary’s popular programme, ‘Policy On Trac’ on AIT.
