THE CIVIL Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA), Kwara chapter, has applauded Kwara Government’s abolition of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA) levy in public primary schools across the state.
In a statement on Monday in Ilorin, CSACEFA State Coordinator, Abdurrahman Ayuba, said the bold decision demonstrated the government’s commitment to making basic education free and compulsory, aligning with the Universal Basic Education (UBE) law.
“CSACEFA is particularly excited that as PTA Levy is abolished. The government is making annual grants available to public primary schools to serve as running costs.
“We commend Gov. Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for prioritising education and promoting a more inclusive and equitable education system.
“CSACEFA Kwara considers the government’s step as a big win especially as the coalition has been in the forefront advocating for the abolishing of the PTA Levy.
“We are thus calling on the Heads of Schools to ensure prudent and judicious utilisation of expected grant in meeting the needs of their Schools,” Ayuba said.
The coordinator said the coalition looked forward to continued collaboration and support for initiatives that benefit children and in raising the quality of education in Kwara and Nigeria. (NAN)
