BENUE State is likely to experience tough crisis today, Sunday, June 30, 2024, if proactive steps are not taken as the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, is planning to hold a thanksgiving service at NKST Daudu, Guma local government area of the state even as the state governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has banned political gatherings in the state.
The governor had since February, 2024, banned all political gatherings across the state, a decision that has caused violence at many times, National Record has observed.
As Akume plans his thanksgiving service, there are rumours that the governor has given orders that the event should not be held.
Aware of the alleged intention of his supposed godson to halt his thanksgiving, Akume in a viral video on Facebook called on his teeming supporters to come out en mass to grace the event, assuring them of adequate protection by conventional security agencies.
“Tell your supporters let them come out en masse, they are being protected by agencies, security agencies, conventional, they are equal to the task. We must come out en masse”, the SGF charged.
Meanwhile, there are hints that thugs have been mobilized and are already warming up to storm the venue of the thanksgiving service if the organizers go ahead to hold the event.
An APC Chieftain in the State who pleaded anonymity told National Record on Sunday that Governor Alia’s ban on political gatherings was targeted at his political enemies, pointing out that the governor himself has just rounded off a thank you tour across Benue State apart from other events he held recently such as the thanksgiving mass/reception organized for him by his kinsmen, Ityo i Jechira, at Tse-Agberagba, Konshisha local government headquarters, on April 28, 2024 among others.
