A NASARAWA State High Court on Monday remanded a man, Timilehin Ajayi, at a correctional facility over alleged killing of his 24-year old girlfriend, Salome Adaidu
Ajayi whose address was not given, is being charged with culpable homicide.
The state counsel, Stanley Ifeanyi, told the court that Ajayi killed Adaidu, a member of the National Youth Service Corps in the FCT.
Ifeanyi said that the offence violated section 221 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria, and punishable with death.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge
The presiding judge, Justice Simon Aboki, remanded Ajayi at the Lafia Custodial Centre, and adjourned the case to March 17, for hearing.
He pledged to give the case an accelerated hearing because of its seriousness and sensitive nature.
It could be recalled that operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command arrested Ajayi for allegedly killing Salome for ritual.
The State’s Police Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, who confirmed the development on Monday, January 13, 2025, said the suspect was rescued by police operatives from being lynched by an angry mob at Karshi Division.
Mr. Nansel noted that after the suspect was rescued, he led the police operatives to his residence where the dismembered body of the young lady was recovered.
“On Sunday evening, police operatives attached to the Karshi Division rescued one Ajayi from an angry mob that had beaten him to pulp.

“A sack containing a fresh human head was subsequently recovered from him. A follow up investigation led Police operatives to his room where dismembered human body packed into sacks were recovered.
“The suspect has been taken to the hospital for treatment. The victim was later identified to be one Salome Enejo, a 24-year-old resident of Nyanya-Abuja and a serving corps member. The Commissioner of Police has ordered an investigation into the case,” the police spokesman said.
The suspect was caught with a fresh human head in Agwan Sarki, Orozo, a boundary area between Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
