- Magistrate Sends Another To Kirikiri Prison For Alleged Defilement Of Minor
AN IKEJA Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court remanded a 27-year-old man, Owolabi Olabisi at a correctional centre on Monday for alleged sexual assault of his neighbour’s eight-year-old girl.
Olabisi had earlier pleaded not guilty to the charge of sexual assault by penetration.
Before his plea was taken, state counsel, Ms Abimbola Abolade told the court that the accused committed the offence on Jan. 18, 2023 at Ojuelegba, Surulere, Lagos.
She said Olabisi sexually assaulted his victim by penetrating her vagina with a finger.
The alleged offence contravenes the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015), she said.
Justice Abiola Soladoye remanded Olabisi in the correctional facility pending hearing of his bail application.
Soladoye adjourned the case to Feb. 20 for commencement of trial.
Punishment for sexual assault by penetration in Lagos State is life imprisonment.
MeanwhileanIkeja Magistrates’ Court, on Monday, ordered the remand of one Musa Usman in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his neighbour’s 10-year-old daughter.
Usman, who lives at No. 32, Ishola Yusuf St., Iloro, Agege, Lagos State, is facing a charge defilement.
The Chief Magistrate, Ejiro Kubeinje, who did not take the plea of the defendant, ordered that the case file should be sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Kubeinje adjourned the case until Feb. 6 pending the DPP’s advice.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, DSP Kehinde Ajayi, had told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offence sometime in December 2023 at his residence.
Ajayi alleged that the defendant defiled the little girl (name withheld) by having unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. If convicted, the defendant is liable to life imprisonment as provided for in the criminal code. (NAN)
