OPERATIVES of the Nigeria Police Force in Potiskum, Yobe State Command, have been accused of brutality, negligence and disruption of justice in a case involving two officers in Potiskum, Yobe State.
In a letter addressed to the Chief Registrar of the High Court of Justice in Damaturu, the Chief Magistrate Court in Potiskum alleged that two police officers were arraigned on charges of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, and robbery.
However, despite multiple adjournments and court orders, the police failed to produce the suspects.
The court further alleged that the case was transferred to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for investigation, but the suspect was released on bail and failed to appear before the Civil Defence Office.
The NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Bala Garba, confirmed the incident, while the Nigeria Police Force Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, stated that the case was under investigation.
Upon contacting the State Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Police Force, Mr Dungus Abdulkarim, he said the command is aware of the case and it has been under investigation.
When contacted, the chairperson of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Altine Ibrahim, confirmed the incident, saying NBA executives would meet with the Commissioner of Police to evaluate the command’s response and determine the next course of action.
