THE NATIONAL Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has entered into a partnership with Wesley University, Ondo to advance inclusive studies for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Mr James Lalu, the Executive Secretary of NCPWD disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja when he met with the management of Wesley University led by its Vice Chancellor, Prof. Obeka Sunday.
Lalu said the meeting was geared towards expanding opportunities for enrolment of PWDs into the university system, especially in vocational training.
“The world has moved from the traditional disciplines to vocational studies in order to acquire skills that will be more impactful in our daily lives.

“As a commission we have also secured enterprising partnerships with some other universities like Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK) to advance disability studies in the country,” he said.
The NCPWD Boss disclosed that the National Universities Commission had approved the take-off of disability inclusive studies in five universities across the nation.
According to him, the universities would be running programmes on assistive technology, rehabilitation management, accessibility development as well as disability inclusive development.
Lalu expressed the confidence that Wesley University has the potential to deliver on the need of the disability students.
In his response, Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Obeka Sunday, said, Wesley is the only academic institution that developed a sign language dictionary in many Nigerian languages.
Sunday said the idea was to assist people with hearing problems to communicate with other members of the public, easily.
The Vice Chancellor expressed interest to partner with the Commission towards advancing the educational needs of PWDs in the country.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Executive Secretary in November 2023, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Nasarawa State University on increasing admission quota for Persons with Disabilities.
The MoU also included creating conducive atmosphere for easy learning for PWDs in the University. (NAN)
