A youth Group, under the aegis of Society for Youth and the Downtrodden (SOYD), has called on the federal government to place an embargo prohibiting civil servants from using court affidavit in relation to the service henceforth.
In a statement on the International Workers day and signed by its President, Comrade Gabriel Ogwuche, and made available to newsmen in Abuja, the group said the call has become necessary because the legal instrument have been abused by service servants.
The statement entitled: “2022 Workers Day: The Need for Surgical Reforms of the Nigeria Civil Service”, the non-governmental organisation further stated: “We mark this year’s workers’ Day with determination to re-echo our call on the federal government to immediately carry out further reforms on the Nigeria civil service for quality service delivery”.
The statement also noted that the civil service space is blocked with no entry and exit points, thereby hampering the free flow of traffic in the work force.
The statement further said: “We are worried that our economy has been overstretched by the ever increasing wage bills and other controllable recurrent expenditures. Consequently, Nigeria’s Economy as at the moment is characterized by ‘consumption orientation’ and this is as a result of the inability of the successive Government in Nigeria to check and reform the civil service in accordance with the contemporary world”.
The Youth warned that: “If the current operational position of the Nigeria Civil Service is left unchecked, the country will be left with nothing much to save or invest and this will ultimately affect production and hence, consumption in the long run, adding that the development will further translate to increasing circle of poverty and crises in the future.
“In view of the above, we call on the Federal Government to ban Civil Servants from using court affidavit in relation to the service from henceforth. This is because the legal instrument has been abused by the service. Also, we call for reforms that will create more jobs for the unemployed youths and ensure improved social security service delivery for the elderly and other vulnerable group in the society”, the statement said.
