THE CENTRE for Human Rights and Social Justice (CHRSJ) held a 41-day Islamic Fidau prayer in honour of its late founding Chairman, Comrade Adeniyi Alimi Sulaiman, on Tuesday in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The prayer session, led by Mallam Abdullahi Abdulrafiu, took place at Ifesowapo Mosque, Ajia, Zone 2, Wakajaye, and was attended by members of the organisation, associates, and dignitaries, including the group’s Deputy General Secretary, Comrade Abiola Abdulganiyu (Dove).
Mallam Abdulrafiu eulogized the late activist as a devout leader, a lover of God, and a role model whose legacy should be emulated. He prayed for divine mercy on Sulaiman’s soul and comfort for his family, friends, and colleagues.
In a statement issued by CHRSJ’s Assistant General Secretary, Pastor Michael Agassi, the organisation described Sulaiman as a dedicated human rights defender who trained under the late legal icon, Chief Gani Fawehinmi (SAN).
Agassi emphasised that Sulaiman’s contributions to Nigeria’s pro-democracy and human rights movements would not be forgotten.
The group linked Sulaiman’s untimely death to his involvement in the Alawo of Awo chieftaincy dispute in Osun State and declared a 60-day mourning period, during which its operations will run minimally.
In a related development, CHRSJ announced the relocation of its National Secretariat from Lagos to Ibadan for improved efficiency.
The Lagos office will remain an annex for correspondence and administrative purposes.
The organisation also pledged to immortalise Sulaiman’s ideals and formally notify partners and media stakeholders of the secretariat’s relocation.
Comrade Sulaiman died in a fatal auto crash on March 4, 2025, along the Abeokuta-Shagamu Expressway.
