CATHOLIC Cardinals currently in Conclave at the Vatican City have signalled the election of a new Pope as white smoke billows from the chimney of the Sistine Chapel.
The elected new Pope, who will be the 266th, will in a short while be unveiled at the Papal balcony.
The cardinals took a break for lunch, after the second ballot of the second day, the third overall since Wednesday. Voting had resumed at around 16:00.
Thousands of excited people have gathered in St Peter’s Square to await the announcement of the new pope.
