        Benue SUBEB Bans Local Savings Scheme At LGEA Level

        THE EXECUTIVE Chairman, Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Dr Grace Adagba, has banned local savings scheme at the Local Government Education Authority (LGEA) levels till further notice to ensure regulatory control over the operation of the LGEA offices.

        Dr Adagba who gave the directive Thursday in a keynote address at the 22nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the SUBEB Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society (SMCS) limited held in Makurdi stressed the need for the staff to take caution of potential pitfalls that may cause them financial harassment even as she noted that the cooperative society provides an avenue for financial assistance, pointing out that it’s not a limitless source of funds.

        Represented by the board secretary, Dr Joseph Jande, Adagba charged members to adhere to the principle of financial responsibility and accountability, urging them to sustain support and strengthen the cooperative society.

        The SUBEB executive chairman who assured the cooperative society of her relentless backing to ensure its success and overcome challenges expressed satisfaction with the financial discipline and collective efforts that have empowered individuals and contributed to the development of the society.

        Earlier in a welcome address president of the cooperative society, Mr Danladi Ochefu, announced that they have recorded a significant total revenue of N47,571,993 within the year under review with the dividend of 27, 8960,107 despite challenges like non-payment of salaries for a period 4 months in 2023.

        Ochefu highlighted the achievements recorded by his Exco to include commissioning of ultra modern complex with a mini conference hall and office department, building and commissioning of ultra modern cooperative store, acquisition of 200 plots of land within Makurdi metropolis for deserving members, processing and issuance of certificates of occupancy, digitalization of operations of the cooperative society, procurement and supply of assorted brands of fertilizer and herbicide to members, procurement and supply of brands of vegetable oil and palm oil to members, amendment and upgrade of the society’s bye-law to a fledge constitution as well as appointment of a legal retainership among other achievements.

        The Danladi Ochefu led EXCO was dissolved during the 22nd AGM to pave way for another election that brought on board new officials with Mrs Emmanuella Akese as president and Anmien Janet 

        Other members of the new Exco include Haanmba Justin, Financial Secretary Donald Akume, Ex-officio, Jacob Mhembe, Assistant secretary general, Ikpilakaa Cletus, Treasurer, Agwa Christiana, Public Relations Officer, Mela Paul Adviser. 

        Others include Danladi Ochefu Ex-officio 1, Janet ojile  , Auditor, Ada Omeliko from  Secretary General, and Egbere Benjamin, Assistant Financial Secretary.

        Responding on behalf of the new Exco, the newly sworn-in president, Emmanuella Akese, appreciated members for finding them worthy to pilot activities of the cooperative society, assuring that the new Exco will do its best to maximize profit for the association.

        Highlights of the AGM were presentation of land allocation papers/certificates of occupancy to beneficiaries and presentation of prizes to top ten contributors with Innocent Ugbudu as the highest contributor.
