BENUE state has lost another former military administrator of the state, AVM Adebayo Lawal (rtd) at the age of 83.
The death of AVM Lawal (rtd), who governed Benue State between 1978 and 1979, came less than two months after Group Captain Joshua Obademi who ruled the state from 1993 to 1996 died on May 10, 2024.
Benue State governor, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, in a condolence message signed by his chief press secretary, Tersoo Kula, said the late Lawal will be remembered for “overseeing the peaceful transition from military rule to democratic rule in Benue State, ensuring a smooth handover to the late Apollos Aper Aku, the first civilian governor of the State”.
According to the statement, already, a state government delegation led by the deputy governor, Sam Ode, has been sent to Lagos to physically condole with the family of the former minister of Youths and Sports who has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
Governor Alia prayed God to give the late Lawal’s immediate family, the people of Benue and Kwara States the fortitude to bear the loss as he also prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.
