GOVERNOR Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has called on Christians to dedicate their Easter celebrations to fervent prayers for the people of Benue, as the state endures one of its most sorrowful Easter periods in recent history.
The governor’s appeal was conveyed in an official Easter message released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Tersoo Kula, in Makurdi.
The statement comes in the wake of devastating attacks by suspected herders on Good Friday, which claimed the lives of over 56 individuals across Logo and Ukum LGAs, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Governor Alia emphasized the core virtues of love, forgiveness, sacrifice, and reconciliation – principles exemplified by Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
He expressed deep regret that this year’s Easter observance coincides with a wave of violent attacks in the state but reassured citizens that normalcy would soon be restored.
The governor affirmed that his administration, in collaboration with security agencies, is implementing all necessary measures to safeguard the lives and property of Benue residents.
He further urged unity among the people to combat the forces of evil inflicting suffering across the state and the nation at large.
Reflecting on the significance of Easter, Governor Alia highlighted Christ’s selfless sacrifice and resurrection as symbols of hope, redemption, and the promise of a virtuous life.
He concluded with a prayer for divine grace and blessings upon the people of Benue during and beyond the Easter season. (NAN)
