THE BENUE State Executive Council has commenced the process of modernising its operations by approving the digitisation of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as part of an e-governance initiative.
The transition, the government says, is to enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency across government functions.
As a result, the state government is to phase out consultancy services to enable the independent management of data within government’s digital transformation agenda.
The initiative was discussed at a stakeholders’ engagement for senior civil service personnel, where Dr Moses Agbogbo Ode, the State Head of Service, highlighted the council’s approval of a mandatory e-filing system to streamline operations.
According to Ode, this system will serve as a critical component of the government’s new digital economy strategy, positioning Benue to align with global best practices in public service delivery.
Dr. Ode noted that in support of this digital transformation, the government has established key platforms such as the Benue Digital Infrastructure Company (BDIC) and the Benue State Digital Infrastructure Service Management Enforcement Agency (BENDME).
These organisations, Ode said, supported by international partnerships, will deliver state-of-the-art solutions and expertise to ensure the success of the digital agenda.
Governor Hyacinth Alia, represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Paul Biam, emphasised the administration’s commitment to the initiative and issued a stern warning against any attempts to undermine it.
Addressing civil servants, the governor urged full cooperation with the digital policy, stressing the importance of adherence to service rules for a smooth transition.
Recognising the essential role of civil servants in implementing government policies, Alia reaffirmed his commitment to improving their welfare as a priority.
Mr. Biam, in his personal remark, assured attendees that Governor Alia remains attuned to the needs of Benue civil servants and is dedicated to addressing their concerns in line with lawful provisions.
