THE Benue State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill to harmonise retirement age for teachers in the state.
The passage of the law in the Committee of the Whole after its clause by clause consideration followed a debate by the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology on the bill on Thursday.
The law which is to embrace all registered teachers in all public schools in the state makes provision for the retirement age of teachers at 65 years and 40 years of service.
Leading the debate, chairman, House Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Terkaa Ucha, while presenting findings of the committee said the law covered all registered teachers both in the classroom and administrative positions, and appealed to his colleagues to support its passage.
Clerk of the House, Barr Ben Anure, represented by Director Administrative, Mrs Mercy Nongo, read the bill for the third time.
Deputy Speaker, Mr Christopher Adaji, who presided over the plenary commended members for their useful contributions towards the passage of the bill.
