THE BENUE State House of Assembly has called for memoranda from traditional rulers, civil society organizations, faith-based organisations and the general public on nine (9) bills currently before it.
Among the proposed laws include a bill for a “law to regulate the engagement of casual workers in Benue State public service and for purposes connected therewith, 2023” and “a bill for a law to provide free snake bite treatment in government hospitals, and establishment of administration and control committee in Benue state and for other matters connected thereto, 2024.”
According to a statement signed Thursday, May 16, 2024 by the secretary, House Standing Committee on Information and Orientation, Bem Abunde, the other bills include:

- A bill for a law to prohibit harassment and extortion of money from investors, developers and businessmen in Benue State (popularly called marching ground) and for purposes connected therewith, 2023.
- A bill for a law to provide for the establishment of the Benue State signage and advertising agency (BESSAA) and for other matters connected thereto, 2023.
- A bill for a law to establish the Benue State Orientation Agency for effective and consistent re-orientation of Benue citizens and for purposes connected therewith, 2023.
- A bill for a law to make provisions for Benue state drug and health commodities management agency and other matters connected therewith, 2023.
- A bill for a law to make provisions for the establishment of Benue State College of Nursing and Midwifery, Makurdi and for purposes connected therewith, 2024.
- A bill for a law to amend the Benue State University law, 2020 and other matters connected therewith, 2024.
- A bill for a law to establish the Benue State legislative budget and research office and for purposes connected thereto, 2023.
The statement directed interested members of the public to submit their memoranda in two (2) copies each to the Secretary, Rules and Business Committee or that of Lands, Survey and Solid Minerals on or before Monday 20, 2024 at the new Assembly Complex, Makurdi.
