GUNMEN suspected to be bandits have reportedly attacked the permanent site of Nigeria’s premier military university, the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Afaka, Kaduna in the early hours of Tuesday killing two officers, injuring one and abducting one officer.

The news of the attack was reported on several news channels early Tuesday morning before it was later confirmed in a terse statement by the Public Relations Officer of the NDA, Major Bashir Muhammad Jajira.
According to Major Jajira, troops from NDA, 1 Division of the Nigerian Army and Air Force Training Command both located in Kawo, Kaduna are in hot pursuit of the bandits in a bid to rescue the kidnapped officer.
“The security architecture of the Nigerian Defence Academy was compromised early this morning by unknown gunmen who gained access into the residential area within the Academy in Afaka.”
“During the unfortunate incident, we lost two personnel and one was abducted. The Academy in collaboration with the 1Division, Nigerian Army and Air Training Command as well as other security agencies in Kaduna State have since commenced pursuit of the unknown gunmen within the general area with a view to tracking them and rescue the abducted personnel.
“The NDA community and Cadets are safe in the Academy. We assure the general public that these unknown gunmen would soon be apprehended and the abducted personnel rescued,” Major Jajira stated.
According to news reports quoting eyewitness accounts, the bandits who were well armed attacked the NDA at about 1:25am killing a Flt. Cdr. and a Flt. Lt. Cm., while a 2nd Lt. sustained gunshot injury. The 2nd Lt. is said to be receiving treatment at a military medical facility inside the NDA.
