THE OBAFEMI Awolowo Foundation has lauded Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), for his “unprecedented leadership” and enduring vision as his decade-long tenure at the helm of the institution draws to a close.
In a heartfelt commendation letter dated August 4, 2025, obtained by National Record on Monday, Amb. (Dr) O. Awolowo Dosumu, Executive Director of the Foundation, praised the outgoing AfDB president for reshaping the bank into a “bold instrument of transformation” and leaving an indelible legacy across the continent.
According to Dr Dosumu, under Adesina’s leadership, the AfDB emerged as a cornerstone of Africa’s development, championing innovative initiatives such as the High 5s, Feed Africa, and Desert to Power. These programs, he said, have not only mobilised critical financing for infrastructure and climate resilience but have also redefined possibilities for millions of Africans.

He also noted that Adesina’s tenure was characterised by a steadfast belief in Africa’s brighter future, stressing that his voice will remain vital in shaping Africa future.
“Your impact is indelible, and your voice will remain vital in shaping Africa’s future, wherever your journey may take you next,” the letter stated, reflecting the widespread anticipation of his continued influence in regional and global development discourse.
