THE leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Monday held a meeting in Abuja preparatory to a meeting with the federal government on Tuesday, the union revealed Monday morning on its official Twitter handle, @ASUUNGN.

“The members of the National Executive Council of ASUU meets [sic] today in Abujawhere they will meet the FG later in the week concerning the strike. The Chairman [sic] of the union Prof. Osodeke, said if the government was responsive, there would be no need for the strike to last for weeks,” reads the tweet.
The federal government on Monday afternoon corroborated Tuesday’s meeting with the leadership of ASUU over the warning strike which was embarked on last Monday, February 14, 2022. Mr Charles Akpan, the Deputy Director, Press and Public Relations in the Ministry of Labour and Employment, stated this in a statement.

According to Mr Akpan, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, will be meeting with the leadership of the union and other relevant government agencies.
“The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, by 1.00 pm at the minister’s conference room,” the statement said.
The lecturers’ agitations include funding for the revitalisation of public universities, earned academic allowances, University Transparency Accountability Solution and promotion arrears. Others are the renegotiation of 2009 ASUU-FGN Agreement, and the inconsistencies in Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS).
