AS THE nation marks 2years of Bola Tinubu administration, the Director General of the premier Micheal Imoudu National Institute for Labour Studies (MINILS) has observed that the administration more than ever before had strived to restore and rebuild the education sector as a foundation for national development.
Comrade Issa Aremu mni gave this pass mark in Ilorin at the Maiden Convocation ceremony of the Institute Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Relations which held on Wednesday.
In his key note address as the host Director General of the joint Degree program with university of Ilorin, Aremu observed that “Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration had prioritized education in the 2025 federal budget, with a record N3.52 trillion allocation, marking a 61.47 per cent increase from the previous year. “The increase in budgetary allocation” he observed “represents a significant step towards revitalising the education sector under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda”. He said the maiden graduation ceremony by MINILS “further compliments the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Human capital Development adding that in the two years of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership, Nigeria’s education policies have commendably undergone significant transformation focused on inclusivity, skill acquisition, data-driven planning, and education quality enhancement.”
Aremu saluted President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for setting up the NIGERIAN EDUCATION LOAN FUND (NELFUND) which he said had made hundreds of thousands indigent students access higher education adding that if 10,789 students at the University of Ilorin have benefited from the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND “What is good for university of Ilorin is even more desirable for the students of its associated Institutions like MINILS. Aremu directed the Head of Academic Department of MINILS “to leverage on the partnership with UniIlorin to make sure that the new undergraduates of MINILS BSC programm benefit from NELFUND. He called for improved regular funding of Development Training labour market Institutions such as MINILS. “The graduation ceremony further points to the landmark milestones in the transformation of MINILS inaugurated in 1983 by late President Shehu Shagari with the mandate to promote labour education in Nigeria and West Africa sub region. In 2019, MINILS commendably diversified its training programs from short regular/ in-plant courses to include long term diploma and Bachelor Degree in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management” he said.
20 students graduated from MINILS maiden Bachelor degrees convocation attended by parents, labour market stakeholders and government officials and members of civil society. The high point of the graduation was the monetary incentives for all graduating students that included top three females with second class upper granted automatic employment at MINILS.
In his address, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, (SAN), the Vice Chancellor of the University of the University of
Ilorin, described the Students graduation as a feat, an accomplishment and an achievement. Egbewole was represented by Prof. Yahya Imam, the Director of the Centre for Affiliated Institutions of the University.
