THE BENUE State House of Assembly has recommended the immediate suspension and replacement of the caretaker committee chairman of Gboko LGA, Abraham Agber, over alleged attempted assassination of the House Speaker, Hon. Hyacinth Aondona Dajoh.

National Record had reported on January 17, 2024 that security personnel picked the embattled chairman from a popular Gboko hotel on January 13, 2024 shortly after he held a meeting with his aides in the town.

The House, which also condemned the alleged murder attempt, took the decision as part of its resolutions during last Wednesday’s plenary when member representing Gwer East state constituency, Hon. Elias Audu, moved an order of urgent public importance on the attempted assassination of the speaker.

The House also asked the Special Adviser to the governor on Internal Security and his counterpart on External Security, Commander of the Livestock Guards and that of the Volunteer Guards, to appear before it on Tuesday next week at 10am to explain security situation in the state.

Moving the motion, Hon. Audu stressed the need for urgent measures to be taken to stop insecurity in Benue State and the influx of herdsmen into the state.

“There is high increase of herdsmen into Benue State [sic]. I’m talking about security generally. If you are going to Abuja now, when you go to Daudu, as you are aware, Daudu is very close to Makurdi, you will see a lot of herdsmen with cows.

“If you remember what happened in Benue State before, one of the major reasons for breakdown of law and order that caused a lot of security challenges is herdsmen attacks,” he stated.

Seconding the motion, member representing Otukpo/Apa constituency, Hon. Kennedy Angbo, called on Governor Alia to sensitise the people on the position of the Anti-Open Grazing Law.
