BENUE State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has formally sworn in Justice Christine Ende as a judge of the state’s High Court, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to strengthening the judiciary and upholding the rule of law.
The swearing-in ceremony took place on Wednesday in Makurdi. In his address, Governor Alia characterized the judiciary as the final refuge for the common citizen and commended the institution for its role in preserving justice and sustaining public trust in democratic governance.
The Governor explained that Justice Ende’s appointment was a recognition of her distinguished career, which spans over three decades across legal practice, judicial administration, human rights advocacy, and public service. He noted that her professional background includes service with African Bank Plc, the National Human Rights Commission, and the Federal High Court. According to the Governor, her tenure as Deputy Chief Registrar and Admiralty Marshal at the Federal High Court has adequately prepared her for the responsibilities of the bench.
Governor Alia further disclosed that this appointment increases the total number of judges in the Benue State judiciary from 32 to 33, while the number of female judges has risen from 13 to 14. He stated that this development reflects his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, equal opportunity, and the advancement of women in leadership positions. Reiterating his administration’s “He for She” philosophy, the Governor asserted that sustainable development can only be achieved when women are granted equal opportunities to contribute their talents, skills, and expertise to nation-building.
The Governor charged the newly sworn-in judge to uphold the Constitution and discharge her duties with integrity, courage, independence, and fairness. He also extended commendations to the National Judicial Council (NJC), the Benue State Judicial Service Commission, and the leadership of the state judiciary for their roles in the appointment process. Governor Alia assured that his administration would continue to support the judiciary in strengthening justice delivery and promoting the rule of law across the state, and he congratulated Justice Ende on her elevation.
In her acceptance speech, Justice Ende expressed profound gratitude to God for His grace, mercy, strength, and guidance throughout her journey to becoming a High Court judge.
She also thanked Governor Alia for his moral, spiritual, and unwavering support, which she credited as a significant factor in her elevation.
The new judge extended her appreciation to the Chief Judge of Benue State, Hon. Justice Maurice Ikpambase, and the President of the Customary Court of Appeal, Justice Cosmos Idye, both members of the NJC and the Benue State Judicial Service Commission, for the confidence placed in her.
She paid tribute to her late parents, acknowledging their sacrifices, prayers, discipline, and commitment, which she said laid the foundation for her academic and professional success.
Justice Ende pledged to uphold the principles of justice, fairness, integrity, and nation-building in the discharge of her duties.
