BENUE State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has announced improved monthly allowances for members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Benue State.

Speaking Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2023 Batch B Stream 1 orientation course held at the NYSC Camp, Wannune, Tarka LGA of the state, Governor Alia promised that each corps member posted to the state will be paid ₦15,000 monthly by the state government, while Medical Doctors will be paid ₦100,000 each.

He charged the corps members to be dedicated to duty and contribute their quota in nation-building as they begin the journey to serve their fatherland.

Earlier in his address, Benue State Coordinator of NYSC, Mr Abe Dankaro Ashumate, appreciated the governor for prioritising the welfare of the corps members by providing food and other essential items for them while in the camp.

He cautioned the corps members against acts that would endanger their lives such as staying out late, attending night parties, visiting dangerous places, and accepting lifts and gifts from strangers.

A state official of the NYSC confided in National Record that although successive administrations in Benue State promised a payment of N10,000 monthly allowance for corps members but the promises were never fulfilled as the corps members did not receive a kobo apart from the N33,000.00 allowance from the federal government.

“My prayer is that Alia should fulfill his promise as a man of God unlike the previous administrations that paid N10,000 monthly allowance to corps members only on paper”, the NYSC official who spoke to National Record on phone said.
