IN A SIGNIFICANT event that blended celebration with philanthropy, the Abuja-FCT chapter of the Ekiti State University Alumni Association (EKSUAA) honoured its immediate past Global President, Engr Dipo Bamisaye, and launched two major funds dedicated to member welfare and educational excellence.
The gathering, which served as a homecoming for Engr. Bamisaye and the inaugural outing for the new chapter executives, was attended by dignitaries including the incumbent Global President, Amb. Seyi Idowu.
The event centred on recognising Bamisaye’s profound contributions to the association, with accolades highlighting his humility, his role in resolving transcript issues, and his financial generosity to members.
Following the presentation of an Award of Excellence to the past president, the chapter chairman, Barr. Ademola Adeleye, announced the establishment of two landmark initiatives: a health insurance fund to enrol members in the National Health Insurance Scheme, which received instant donations of three million naira, and an annual award for best-graduating Law and Philosophy students, backed by an initial personal donation of five hundred thousand naira.
The meeting was attended by a host of dignitaries, including the incumbent Global President, Amb. Seyi Idowu, who travelled from the United Kingdom to honour his predecessor.
Other prominent figures in attendance included the association’s pioneer FCT chairman and past Global President, Dr. Oludotun Adetuberu; members of the legal community; and past chapter executives.
In his address, Amb. Idowu commended Bamisaye for being “a light, a guide, and a pride to many of us,” highlighting his pivotal role as a pillar of support and his efforts in resolving longstanding issues with transcript processing for alumni.
Echoing similar sentiments, Dr. Adetuberu described the former president as the “personification of humility” and detailed his key achievements, which included the construction of an Alumni Village and providing significant financial assistance to members in need, including a one-million-naira donation to a member involved in an accident.
In his acceptance speech after receiving an Award of Excellence from the chapter, Engr. Bamisaye expressed his gratitude and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the association.
“This can only encourage me to do more,” he stated, adding that the core mission of an alumni association is “networking for self-reliance so that we can give back to our Alma Mater and the larger community.”
Awards were also presented to the current Global President, Ambassador Idowu, and members of the immediate past FCT chapter executive, led by Honourable Olakunle Oleshin.
Ambassador Idowu, accepting his award, stated it would “trigger better performance.” He outlined his administration’s ongoing projects, which include further streamlining transcript processing, launching an official association website, laying the foundation for a Leadership Centre, and digitizing university operations.
