THE All Progressive Congress (APC) on Thursday unveiled its zoning formula in the 2023 general elections; just as it also notified the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of its intention to conduct the party’s national convention.
The party has barely three days to the constitutionally allowed deadline toinform the electoral umpire of the convention. In accordance with Section 85 (1) of the Electoral Act (2010) as amended, all political parties in the country are mandated to give the commission at least 21 days’ notice before holding a convention.
The letter conveying the notice to INEC is dated February 2, 2022 but received on Thursday, February 3, 2022 by the INEC, stating that the convention will hold February 26, 2022.
“This is to inform the Commission that our great Party has scheduled to hold its National Convention on Saturday, 26th February, 2022.
“This serves as a formal notification pursuant to the provisions of Section 85 of the Electoral Act (2010) as amended.
“Kindly arrange for your officials to monitor the exercise accordingly,” the letter, jointly signed by the Interim National Chairman of the party and Secretary, Governor Mala Buni and Senator John Akpanuodehe respectively reads.
Meanwhile, Governor Buni who chaired a meeting of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC presented the zoning of the 2023 Presidential ticket, the leadership of the National Assembly and the leadership of the party as follows:
President – (South); Vice President – (North); Senate President – (South); Deputy Senate President – (North); Speaker, House of Representatives – (North); Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives – (South).
The leadership of the party is zoned as follows: National Chairman – (North); National Secretary – (South); National Treasurer – (South); Financial Secretary – (North); Legal Officer – (North); Welfare Officer – (South); Auditor – (North); National Youth Leader – (South); National Woman Leader – (South); Publicity Secretary – (South) and Persons With Disability PWD Leader – (South).
