THE OFFICE of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) has launched a monthly newsletter, The National Security Monitor, to improve public understanding of Nigeria’s security environment.

This is contained in a statement issued by Dr Chido Onumah, Special Adviser to the National Security Adviser on Strategic Communication and Civil Society Liaison, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Onumah said the publication was designed to provide authoritative and accessible information on national security priorities, policy initiatives, institutional reforms, operational achievements and emerging threats.

“The inaugural July 2026 edition features the Fourth UK-Nigeria Security and Defence Partnership Dialogue, held in Abuja from June 22 to June 24.

“The edition also examines Nigeria’s emerging security doctrine, Whole-of-Society approach to security, border security, federal-state coordination and Operation Safe Corridor.

“Other areas covered include African-led responses to terrorism and the repositioning of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau under the Presidency through ONSA,” he said.

In his remarks, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, said credible strategic communication was essential to effective national security management.

Ribadu said contemporary national security extended beyond defence to include economic stability, cyber resilience, public safety, information integrity and critical infrastructure protection.

He said the newsletter would promote transparency, accountability and responsible public engagement while strengthening public confidence in Nigeria’s security architecture.

According to him, the publication will also support efforts to counter misinformation, disinformation and hostile information operations.

He said it would deepen security awareness and civic responsibility while strengthening partnerships with the media, civil society, academia, development partners and the private sector.

The statement said the newsletter formed part of ONSA’s broader efforts to strengthen strategic communication, public information management and engagement with citizens.

It said the publication would also contribute to the development of the National Security Strategic Communication, Public Information Management and Civil Society Engagement Policy, 2026–2030.

ONSA invited security practitioners, media organisations, civil society groups, researchers and other stakeholders to engage with the publication.

It said feedback of not more than 100 words and contributions of not more than 300 words could be sent to stratcom@nsa.gov.ng.

The newsletter will be published monthly by ONSA, the statement said. (NAN)
