THE CHAIRPERSON, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Lagos Council, Comrade Funmi Sesi, says the workers’ union in the state has lost a gem following the death of Comrade Domingo Adeleke.

Sesi, in his condolence message on Wednesday, described Adeleke’s death as a painful and irreparable loss to the labour movement.

The late Adeleke was, until his demise, the Chairman of the Lagos State Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), the umbrella body for trade unions in the state public service.

JNC serves as the official platform for negotiating workers’ welfare, salaries and conditions of service with the government.

According to Sesi, the late labour leader was a team player who consistently worked to improve welfare and better working conditions for workers across the state.

“Domingo was a peaceful and well-loved comrade. He was always looking for better working conditions and improved welfare for workers.

“We have really lost a gem. His death is an irreparable loss to the labour family in Lagos State,” she said.

Sesi said that the news of Adeleke’s sudden death came as a rude shock to members of the labour community and all who knew him.

She described the deceased as a friend, a comrade par excellence, and a true son of Lagos State, whose contributions to the labour movement would be greatly missed.

The NLC chairperson prayed God to comfort and console his immediate family, the labour family, the Lagos State Government, his friends and colleagues.

She also prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Adeleke died on Tuesday in Geneva, Switzerland, after a brief illness.

He had travelled to attend the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) as a member of Nigeria’s delegation.

His death has attracted tributes from labour leaders, workers and government officials, who described him as a committed unionist and advocate of workers’ rights. (NAN)
