IT IS WITH great joy and deep respect that I celebrate an exceptional unionist, mentor, and leader — Comrade Abadom Amechi — on the remarkable occasion of his 60th birthday.

Comrade Amechi is a proud native of Anambra State and a distinguished graduate of Mechanical Engineering from Yaba College of Technology. He is a man of principle, vision, and uncommon courage.

You are a defender of the voiceless, a bridge-builder, and a dependable ally to the oppressed. God has continually used you to stand in the gap for your generation. For your sacrifices, mentorship, and exemplary life, I say thank you, Comrade Amechi.

Although we serve in the same organisation and directorate, our departmental shift arrangement has limited our closeness. Yet, his reputation and impact have always been loud and clear.

My admiration for Comrade Amechi began in 2013 at the Branch Union Triennial Delegate Conference of the National Union of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employees.

Although he was considered an underdog, providence intervened on election day: the most popular candidate was disqualified due to errors in his nomination form. In that defining moment, the workers of the organisation unanimously shifted their support to Comrade Amechi Abadom.

He won by a landslide, defeated the other two contestants, and emerged as the Branch Chairman. In that same election, I was also victorious and became the Branch Treasurer, though we came from different groups.

For three years, Comrade Amechi and I served together as executives of the branch union. In that time, I witnessed first-hand his sterling qualities. Comrade Amechi is a man of integrity, wisdom, and unwavering dedication.

He is a devout child of God, and this godliness radiates through his daily conduct. He is selfless, compassionate, and approachable — a true servant-leader who listens to all. He is bold, principled, and incorruptible; he will never compromise his position for selfish or evil purposes.

Beyond unionism, Comrade Amechi is my mentor and role model. He is an articulate speaker, a gifted writer, and a strategic thinker.

Many who know him fondly refer to him as a journalist because of his clarity and depth. He is also the visionary Convener of the Redemption Group, where his leadership continues to inspire positive change.

As you mark your 60th birthday, I pray that God grants you many more years filled with joy, sound health, peace, and fulfilment. Indeed, God has richly blessed you and your family. He has graced you with wisdom to successfully raise and train your children both at home and abroad, and they are a testament to your purposeful life.

You are a defender of the voiceless, a bridge-builder, and a dependable ally to the oppressed. God has continually used you to stand in the gap for your generation. For your sacrifices, mentorship, and exemplary life, I say thank you, Comrade Amechi.

Once again, congratulations on this milestone. Happy 60th birthday, Sir! The best is yet to come.

Comrade Abiodun is the Secretary, Redemption Group of the Food Union.
