THE BENUE State House of Assembly has extended the suspension of former Speaker, Hon. Hyacinth Dajoh, for an additional six months.
The decision was reached during Tuesday’s plenary following a motion of urgent public importance moved by Mr. Terna Shimawua (APC-Kyan Constituency).
The motion cited Dajoh’s alleged lack of remorse and failure to apologise for his initial suspension on August 26, 2025.
At that time, he was suspended for three months over accusations of initiating an impeachment move against Governor Hyacinth Alia.
During the debate, Mr. Shimawua further alleged that the former Speaker had conspired with two other suspended members – former Majority Leader Saater Tiseer and former Minority Leader Michael Audu – in a fresh plot to impeach the current Speaker, Mr. Alfred Emberga.
The motion was seconded by Mr. Simon Gabo (APC-Mata Constituency), who supported the extension of the sanction.
In his remarks, Speaker Emberga emphasised the supremacy of the legislative institution, stating that no individual is above it.
He clarified that the suspension would only be lifted upon Dajoh demonstrating genuine remorse and submitting a formal, written apology to the House.
The extension, effective from November 25, means the Gbemacha (Gboko West) Constituency will remain without representation in the state assembly for the next six months.
If the conditions are not met, the suspension could potentially continue for the remainder of the current political tenure.
