BENUE State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has condemned the killing of two youths of Igede extraction along the Awajir–Oju road and a separate attack on Nyifon Community in Buruku LGA of the state.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, the governor described both incidents as “uncalled for and unfortunate,” warning that no individual or group has the right to inflict harm or invade any community under any circumstance.
According to the statement, security reports revealed that the two victims were travelling from Oju on a motorcycle when they were ambushed and killed in cold blood.
In a related development, youths from the Mbayaka Community in Kusuv, also in Buruku LGA, allegedly launched an attack on Nyifon Community in Mbaikyongo Ward following a misunderstanding linked to a boat mishap.
Governor Alia directed security agencies to immediately move into the affected areas, liaise with traditional rulers, and ensure that the perpetrators are identified and apprehended within 48 hours to face the full weight of the law.
“Benue is beginning to experience a level of security stability, and I will not tolerate any attempt by anyone regardless of their status or intentions to instigate unrest or threaten the peace we are working hard to sustain,” he warned.
While reiterating his administration’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, the governor urged all communities across the state to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding as investigations continue.
Although Kula’s statement did not mention the names of the two Igede victims, National Record gathered however that they are Jonathan Uko Ogah who got wedded last Saturday August 2, 2025, and his close friend and best-man at the weeding, Gabriel Ogoda
