THE MINISTER of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, will chair the public presentation of Nigeria Media Renaissance: GOCOP Perspective on Online Publishing, a publication by the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP).
The event is scheduled for 11am on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Continental Hotel, Abuja.
GOCOP President, Maureen Chigbo, confirmed that the book launch will attract dignitaries from various sectors, including government officials, industry leaders, media professionals, representatives of international organizations, and directors of non-governmental organizations.
Alhaji Idris, appointed Minister of Information and National Orientation on August 21, 2023, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, brings over three decades of experience in broadcasting, journalism, public relations, and advertising to the role.
A graduate of English Studies from Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, and Bayero University, Kano, Idris is also a media entrepreneur, having established Blueprint Newspaper, WE FM Radio, and Rapid Television in Abuja.
A fellow of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the African Public Relations Association, Idris is the founder of Bifocal Communications, a leading PR consultancy.
Beyond his professional achievements, he is known for his philanthropic efforts through the Mohammed Idris Malagi (MIM) Foundation.
His contributions to society earned him the traditional title of Kaakaki Nupe from the Etsu Nupe.
According to a statement by GOCOP Publicity Secretary, Ogbuefi Remmy Nweke, proceeds from the book will support the construction of the N2.3 billion GOCOP Media Centre, a multi-purpose facility featuring a secretariat, a modern library, and event halls.
GOCOP, established to promote professionalism in online publishing, comprises 120 corporate publishers — seasoned editors and journalists committed to upholding journalistic integrity.
The guild plays a key role in advancing digital journalism in Nigeria and beyond.
