THE DIRECTOR-GENERAL of the Benue State Public Procurement Commission (BSPPC), Engr. Comfort Akwonya Adadu, has mandated the contractor handling the High-Level Interchange Underpass in Makurdi to ensure the complete restoration of affected drainage systems to mitigate potential flooding risks in the area.

During a routine inspection of the ongoing underpass project last Wednesday, the Director-General underscored the critical importance of environmental safety and infrastructure integrity.

While acknowledging the project’s technical competence and satisfactory progress, she emphasized the need for prompt remediation of drainage systems disrupted by construction activities.

“The integrity of surrounding infrastructure must not be compromised. The contractors have provided assurances that all affected drainages will be fully restored, including post-project completion, and we will hold them accountable to this commitment,” stated George Nder, Special Assistant to the DG on Media and Communication.

It would be recalled that the Project Manager of Bauhaus Global, Engr. Charbel Al-Ammar, had earlier assured journalists that surface drainages would be connected by April 25, 2025, while the underpass drainage would be completed following ongoing filling works.

He further explained that the system would integrate with an existing outlet, pending a future contract for an expanded drainage channel.

Additionally, Engr. Al-Ammar confirmed that the underpass is slated for completion and commissioning by Governor Hyacinth Alia on May 29, 2025.

The inspection by the BSPPC also included a thorough review of compliance with project specifications, material quality, and adherence to approved architectural designs.

The Director-General reiterated that all public infrastructure must meet stringent standards of durability, environmental safety, and fiscal accountability.

In a related oversight exercise on Thursday, the DG led a delegation to inspect the ongoing reconstruction of the Wurukum–Airforce Base–Mu road corridor in Makurdi.

The 10-kilometer dual carriageway and an adjoining 3-kilometer spot maintenance segment were assessed for compliance with contractual stipulations and federal engineering benchmarks.

According to the Director-General, on-site evaluations and technical assessments confirmed that the project aligns with approved design documents.

The inspection was conducted in collaboration with officials from the State Ministry of Works, the Office of the Accountant General, the Efficiency Unit, and other key stakeholders.

Additionally, the Commission extended its oversight to the proposed site for a planned expansion of the project at the Renewal Zone, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring transparency, quality, and timely delivery of public infrastructure projects in Benue State.
