THE NATIONAL Universities Commission (NUC) has issued a provisional license for the establishment of the Benue State University of Agriculture, Science and Technology (BUSAST).
The institution, located in Governor Hyacinth Alia’s community, Ihugh in Vandeikaya LGA, becomes the second state-owned university in Benue State.
During the presentation of the license in Abuja, the NUC’s Executive Secretary, Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu, emphasized the need for adherence to quality assurance standards in academic programs and institutional management.
Representing Governor Alia, Deputy Governor Sam Ode received the license on behalf of the state government.
Prof. Ribadu noted that the approval raises the number of state-owned universities in Nigeria to 68 and the total number of universities nationwide to 299.
He assured that the NUC would conduct an assessment of the institution’s facilities, infrastructure, and human resources upon request.
Governor Alia, in a statement, described the approval as a significant milestone in the state’s commitment to advancing education.
He pledged the government’s dedication to providing necessary resources to ensure the university’s growth and contribution to agricultural and scientific development in Nigeria. (NAN)
