THE NIGERIA Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) is collaborating with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to enhance its internal capacity to fight corruption.

Mr Oluwaseun Faleye, Managing Director of NSITF, made this announcement during a courtesy visit to ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Aliyu, on Tuesday in Abuja.

Faleye emphasised that the collaboration aimed to ensure accountability for subscribers’ funds, detect corruption within the Fund, and promote good governance while upholding ethical principles.

He stressed that NSITF had always prided itself on maintaining high ethical standards and was committed to fostering a culture of transparency and integrity.

“This meeting was not just a routine protocol; it was a decisive step toward a collaborative future with the ICPC, an agency that stands as a bulwark against corrupt practices,” Faleye said.

He outlined the agency’s efforts to empower its Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) and launch a comprehensive anti-corruption campaign.

He said with approximately 120 staff designated as ACTU liaison officers, NSITF was strengthening its dedication to accountability and maintaining public trust.

“The fewer the scandals, the greater the trust our people have in us.

“This isn’t just a regulatory exercise—it’s a strategic move to regain the public’s confidence,” he added.

Faleye also highlighted the importance of embracing rigorous audits, internal compliance, and capacity-building practices to create a corruption-resistant framework in partnership with ICPC.

ICPC Chairman, Dr Musa Aliyu, commended NSITF’s management for the visit, acknowledging the challenges public agencies face when managing funds.

He pointed out the importance of maintaining public confidence, especially when dealing with employee contributions.

“If people have confidence in you, they will be willing to make their contributions. However, once that confidence is lost, you will face many challenges.

“As an agency, the ICPC has a preventive mandate, which, in my view, is more important. We shouldn’t allow issues to arise that would lead to investigations.

“Such situations waste a lot of time and cause problems that are difficult to manage.

“That is why it’s essential for both agencies to come together and collaborate effectively to prevent corruption,” he said. (NAN)
