A MONTH after National Record reported the decayed state of the Apir Rehabilitation Board, near Makurdi, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has promised to upgrade the facility with two hostel blocks, a dining hall and a classroom block.
Governor Alia also promised to drill a bore to address the challenge of water scarcity faced by students of the rehabilitation school.
National Record, on May 16, 2024, reported how the Benue State Coordinator of the Legal Aid Council, Mrs Malami Jijingi, had appealed to the state government and public-spirited individuals to renovate dilapidated structures at the Apir Rehabilitation Board to give it a facelift.
According to principal Special Assistant (PSA) to Governor Alia on Media and Content Creation, Isaac Uzaan, the governor made the promise on Monday when he visited the school while returning to Makurdi, the state capital, from his thank-you-tour.
Alia, who reportedly expressed total dissatisfaction with the state of the rehabilitation board, promised to immediately transform it and improve on the feeding of the students.
The Rehabilitation Board, located at Apir, a suburb of Makurdi, was built in 2002 to cater for people living with disabilities as well as the destitute in the society. It is also an academic premises housing over 60 special-need children excluding staff of varied categories, most of who are also physically challenged and teach different classes of primary school level.
The infrastructural facilities which serve as hostels for inmates, classrooms, vocational training rooms and administrative offices are in deplorable condition following its neglect by successive governments in the state over the years.
