THE NATIONAL Union of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE) has sacked Comrade Lateef Idowu Oyelekan as the Chairman/Managing Director of NUFBTE Investment Board with immediate effect.
In a letter conveying his sack, dated Monday, April 29, 2024, and signed by Comrade Garba Ibrahim, the National President of NUFBTE, a copy of which was obtained by National Record Monday evening, the union said the decision to remove Comrade Oyelekan was taken at the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday, April 25, 2024 in Kano.
According to Comrade Ibrahim, Oyelekan’s removal is due to his “inability to meet up with the minimum expectation of performance as required from your [Oyelekan] position.”
The letter, captioned: “Cessation of appointment”, reads: “I regret to convey to you the approval and directive of the National Executive Council (NEC) [of] our union (National Union of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE) to terminate your Appointment as the Chairman/Managing Director of NUFBTE Investment Board with immediate effect owing to your inability to meet up with the minimum expectation of performance as required from your position.

“Meanwhile, the Union will determine your severance entitlement (IF ANY) in a short while and reach out to your accordingly.
“Consequently, you are further directed to hand-over every Union’s Investment’s properties under your possession to the General Secretary of the Union.
“Wishing you success in all your future endeavours.”
NEC Suspends 3 Vice Presidents
Meanwhile, the Kano NEC also suspended three of the union’s vice presidents for reasons described as “various serious infractions against the Constitution” of the union.
The vice presidents include Comrades Adedeji Adenuga of Seven-Up Bottling Co. Ltd.; Olusegun Emmanuel, National Vice President, Nestle Nig. Plc and Segun Odedele, of Sumal Group of Companies.
In a letter to the Executive Secretary, Association of Food, Beverage and Tobacco Employers (AFBTE), entitled; “Suspension of Three (3) National Administrative Committee (NAC) Members of Our Union”, signed by Comrade Mike Olanrewaju, NUFBTE General Secretary, the union urged the employers association “to take special notice of this, as the affected officers can no longer represent our Union nor participate in any of our Union related activities during the period of their suspension.”

The letter, obtained by National Record, reads: “Sequel to the successful holding of our Union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting which was held in Kano on Thursday, 25th April, 2024, some far reaching decisions were adopted at the NEC meeting which includes carrying out disciplinary actions against three (3) members of our union’s National Administrative Committee (NAC) members [sic] for their various serious infractions against the Constitution of our Union.
“The affected members are as follows:
“1. Com. Adedeji Adenuga, National Vice President, Seven-Up Bottling Co. Ltd.
“2. Com. Olusegun Emmanuel, National Vice President, Nestle Nig. PLC
“3. Com. Segun Odedele, National Vice President, SUMAL Group of Companies
“Consequently, you are therefore enjoined to take special notice of this, as the affected officers can no longer represent our Union nor participate in any of our Union related activities during the period of their suspension.
“Thanks in anticipation of your usual cooperation, understanding and support.”
In letters to each of the suspended vice presidents, all of which were obtained by National Record, Comrade Olanrewaju, who signed them, said the suspensions were with effect from 25th April 2024 in accordance with the union’s constitution, rule 10 (xiii & xix) Rule 17 (viii) and Appendix II 5, 6 (I & J).
Each of the letters, entitled: “Suspension From Office and Invitation to Appear Before Disciplinary Committee”, reads:
“Sequel to the decisions and Resolutions reached at the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on Thursday, 25th April, 2024 at the Green Desert Palm Hotels Limited, Kano, Kano State, this therefore serves to formally inform you that you are hereby SUSPENDED from your position as a National Vice President of our Union with effect from 25th April, 2024 in accordance with the Provisions of our Union’s Constitution Rules 10 (xiii & xix), Rule 17 (viii) and Appendix II 5, 6 (I & j) respectively.
“This action is predicated on your serial infractions against the Constitution of our Union.
“During the period of your suspension, you are to cease from participating in any Union related activities and programmes.
“Meanwhile, in other to give you fair hearing and opportunity to clear yourself of the infractions reported against you, you are hereby invited to appear before a special Disciplinary Committee constituted by the National Executive Council (NEC) as indicated below: –
“Date: Wednesday, 15th May 2024
“Venue: Conference Hall, National Secretariat Headquarter, NO. 9, Mortune Avenue, Valley Estate, Ikeja – Lagos
“Time: 12.00 Noon.
“It is expected that you will utilize the opportunity provided by the Disciplinary Committee maximally in your best interest.
“Please be guided.”
