THE FEDERAL Government has approved the request by Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State to construct a flyover at Wurukum roundabout, Makurdi, the state capital with questions being asked as the State Executive Council (SEC) had on January 10, 2024 approved the same project.
National Record had reported how Mr Tersoo Kula, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, announced SEC’s approval for the construction of two overhead bridges; one in Wurukum Roundabout and the other in High Level Roundabout.
Kula had also stated that the SEC directed the Benue State Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development to work out modalities for the award of contract for the construction of the two overhead bridges.
Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, announced federal government’s approval of the proposed Wurukum Roundabout, Makurdi Flyover bridge when he flagged off the second phase of the dualization of Makurdi-Otukpo-Enugu dual carriageway project.

Umahi assured that work would commence soon, and thanked the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the project and other numerous road projects across the country.
He commended Governor Alia for his efforts to transform Benue State with numerous ongoing road projects, acknowledging that Alia’s administration has created an enabling environment for the construction of the Makurdi-Otukpo-Enugu road project.
Asked via a WhatsApp chat whether it is only the construction design that has now been taken over and incorporated into the federal budget or the entire components of the flyover project, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Tersoo Kula, did not respond to National Record‘s enquiry.
In his remarks at the flag-off ceremony, Governor Alia appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for approving the contract.
Alia assured the Ministry of Works and the contractor handling the project, China Habour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC) of the state government’s support and partnership to ensure the project is completed within the specified time.

He thanked God for granting the state a new leaf under his watch and appreciated people of the state for their patience, soliciting their sustained support as well as that of President Tinubu for the overall progress of the state and the country.
He charged the people of the area and the state in general, to support the contractor in the area of security and other ways they can, for speedy delivery of the job.
On their part, the CHEC team promised to do their best to deliver a good job on the road project.
The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Alia, Kula, had explained via a press statement that “the overall funding of the project comes from a partnership between the federal government and the Export-Import Bank of China”.
