A FORMER Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Na’Abba, is dead. He died in the early hours of Wednesday in Abuja.
Na’Abba, who was elected Member of the House of Representatives in 1999 from Kano State, became Speaker of the House of Representatives following the resignation of the then Speaker, Salisu Buhari, also from Kano, as a result of certificate forgery scandal.
Born on September 27, 1958, Na’Abba succumbed to an unspecified prolonged ailment.

He was once flown abroad for medical treatment and stayed there for some months before he recovered and returned to Nigeria.
The remains of the former Speaker would be buried in Abuja on Wednesday according to Islamic rites.
The late Na’Abba joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and became the party’s candidate for Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, a position he won during the April 1999 general elections. Na’Abba was a 1979 graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he studied political science.
