AN IKEJA Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Wednesday sentenced 25-year-old teacher Chukwunonso Okafor to life imprisonment for defiling a 3-year-old child.

Justice Abiola Soladoye convicted and sentenced Okafor after ruling that the prosecution had successfully proven the three-count charge of sexual assault by penetration, defilement, and indecent treatment of a child against him.

The court heard testimony from the survivor, who identified Okafor as the man who had sucked her breast and penetrated her vagina.

Justice Soladoye stated that the survivor’s account was corroborated by compelling evidence detailing the sexual assault.

The judge dismissed Okafor’s attempts to distance himself from the crimes, describing him as a “pathological liar.”

“You descended to the lowest level by engaging in oral sex with a three-year-old child. You embody everything a teacher should not be, and your actions are barbaric,” Justice Soladoye said.

“Based on the evidence presented before this court, I hereby convict you on all three counts. You are sentenced to life imprisonment on counts one and two, and seven years’ imprisonment on count three.”

The judge ruled that the sentences would run concurrently and ordered that Okafor be registered as a sex offender.

State counsel, Mrs. Ibukun Ibikunle, stated that the offenses occurred in December 2022 on Ajao Adedokun Street in Ikotun, Lagos.

The prosecution detailed how Okafor sexually assaulted the child by forcing her to perform oral sex and also physically abused her by flogging her and sucking her breasts.

The offenses contravene Sections 135, 137, and 261 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015. (NAN)
