THE Chief Imam, Central Mosque, Makurdi, Dr Suleiman Habib, has admonished Muslims to eschew immoral behaviour like backbiting, lies and other vices.
Dr Habib gave this admonition Monday in an interview with newsmen at the end of Ramadan fast (Eid-al-fitr) in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
“We pray our leadership, may Allah guide us, let us elect those that love us not those that we love and let God choose for us not what we want because Allah knows the best for us.
“May God give us leaders that will care for the poor and the common man, those who will bring development to Nigeria, those who will improve our health, education and not only education, our children must be employed in industries that will be created.
“May Allah restore our economy and protect us from insurgency, kidnapping and so many other vices”.
Speaking on the significance of fasting, the Chief Imam said it draws people closer to God and He accepts their prayers.
“Fasting makes people who are highly placed to feel the hunger that common people are experiencing so that they will have mercy and help them. Those who believe, Allah has decreed for them to fast for 30 days like the other nations fasted. You know that the Jews fasted 40 days during Moses time, Christians fasted during Jesus and Muslims too fasted”, he added.
Also speaking, Principal Senior Assistant to Governor Samuel Ortom on Investment who is the immediate past Special Adviser on Monitoring, Alhaji Isah Usman, called on Muslims in the state to pray for the governor and the entire people of the state.
“I urge both Muslims and Christians to unite and live in peace. God created us together and we all worship the same God. It’s human beings that create this difference. Let us live as brothers and sisters and help one another”, Usman advised.
